3 Steps to Creating Your First Product

22 April 2009 One Comment

myfirstproductIt amazes me how many coaches and entrepreneurs still don’t have products.

In my own business, learning to create and market my own coaching products is the one thing that has made the biggest financial difference for me.

But creating my first product was P-A-I-N-F-U-L!

Every night after work and playing with my son, I’d go to my computer and write, organize, edit, re-write, re-organize, re-edit–I started from scratch at least two times.

It took me THREE agonizing months to complete.

And yet today, I can develop a new products in less than a week, sometimes in just a few hours.

Want to know how I do it?

Here’s exactly how I do it, and how you can do it too…

Milana’s “3-Step Product Formula”

1. First, start with an idea.

The idea has to come from a need you see in your market. I haven’t done much research about this particular idea, but I can tell you that I spent weeks looking for a coaching program I can use with my 12-year old. It simply doesn’t exist. There are plenty of programs for older teenagers, but there is nothing for the younger level. (I am not an expert on coaching young kids, so I would love for someone to create this program!)

2. Second, create an outline.

Let’s pretend that you are creating an audio program for pre-teens. What you do is create a survey to find out what their parents want. Their answers to your questions will become the basis for your program.

3. Third, present the program live.

You could certainly spend weeks or months developing your audio program. But it’s much easier to hold it live for the people who took your survey, and for other people on your mailing list. Going back to the coaching program for pre-teens, you could invite both, the parents AND their kids to attend the live calls. At the end of each call have a “Question and Answer” session, and of course, record everything. By the time your program is completed, you will have a full-blown audio products you can sell. You could also add a workbook and a quiz to make the products more interactive.

That’s it!

The whole process should take you no more than a week to complete your products. And, if you have access to a mailing list of people who are interested in the topic, you could even charge them to attend your live program and generate revenue at the same time.

See how simple it is?

Let nothing hold you back.
